• Kindergarten Registration

It is time to begin thinking about kindergarten and enrolling your child in Hawley Elementary’s School Readiness sessions. The Hawley Elementary kindergarten teachers will be the School Readiness teachers and the sessions are held in the kindergarten classrooms. It is an exciting time and we are looking forward to having your child in kindergarten.

The emphasis of this program is on readiness skills and social skills necessary to function in a kindergarten classroom. There is no charge for this program. The program is funded as a categorical program by the Minnesota Department of Education. Simply stated, that means the funds cannot be used for anything other than the School Readiness program in our school.

Here is what you need to know about the School Readiness Program:
Hawley Elementary will need all updated immunization records in order to participate in this program.

The program consists of 4 Tuesday night sessions. The session dates are April 12th, 19th, 26th, and May 3rd. Each Tuesday we will have 2 session options. Each week your child will come at the same time. The times are 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. or 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. (Please do not come before 3:15, as staff will need the time to transition from kindergarten classes to School Readiness classes.

You will be required to attend one parent meeting on either April 12 or May 3. The parent meetings will run simultaneously as the child sessions. You are required to attend only one meeting. This is a requirement to provide you with the necessary information to make the transition to kindergarten successful.

Your child will participate in a full day kindergarten experience on May 9 or May 10. This session is from 9:00-2:30. Our current kindergarten students won’t have school this day, and the School Readiness children will get to experience a full day, including lunch, recess, physical education, music and so much more. There will not be transportation provided by the school on the full round-up day.

Kindergarten Readiness information will be sent to families in April. To make sure your child is on our mailing list, please contact the Elementary Office.

    Early Childhood Screening

Minnesota law requires that all children MUST participate in early childhood screening at some point before entering kindergarten.  The Hawley School District will be screening all children over the age of 4, or any children eligible for entering kindergarten who have not yet been screened.  The screening will consist of the following components and will take approximately one hour:

    Vision and Hearing
Physical Growth Assessment (height and weight)
    Family Factors Interview
    Developmental Screening
    Immunization Review

Early Childhood Screening for Hawley has been scheduled for the following dates:

    March 3, 2022
    March 4, 2022

The screening will be held at the Preschool Center, which is located at 604 6th Street.

Screening information/packets were sent out to families in early February.  Please fill out the enclosed forms and bring them with you to the appointment.  You will also need to bring a copy of your child’s immunization records with you if we do not have one on file.

Any questions or to inquire if your child is on our mailing list, please contact Tara Anderson at 218-483-3316.
