2020 Summer Community Education

June 5, 2020
Please see Speed and Strength Information below!! Program will start on June 15.

Hawley Community Education would like to share a few updates with you related to summer recreation activities.

It is with much consideration for the regard to safety that Summer Recreation classes and activities have been cancelled except for a few virtual activities for June. You will be able to register for these virtual classes next week on-line on the Hawley School Website under the Community Education Tab. We are not making any decisions for July classes at this time. It is possible that some activities that were planned for June could be rescheduled for July. We are committed to doing everything that we can to offer students opportunities to be active and participate this summer all while following guidance from the Governor, MN Department of Health and the MN Department of Education.

If you have any questions or ideas for virtual classes, feel free to contact Community Education at 218-483-3555 X1012 or bgottenborg@hawley.k12.mn.us.

Thank you very much for your patience during this time.

Speed and Strength Nugget Camp

Are you looking to increase your vertical, change direction quicker, run faster, and get stronger? The workouts focus on dynamic flexibility, balance, speed, agility, strength and power development through plyometrics, Olympic lifting movements and traditional strength training exercises. Students will get out as much as they put into the program.

We will only have 18 kids come per time frame. We will have 3 times to pick from(time slots are not guaranteed and are based on when the registration is received). Students will not be able to switch to a different time once they are registered due to the 9:1 ratio. The students will be split between Weight area and Speed Area in groups of 9 students to 1 coach in each group.Equipment will be wiped down between each person. We would have the students wipe down the equipment when they are ready to move to the next

piece. All students should keep their personal things separate from others participating. This

includes shoes, keys and cell phones. Students should try to maintain 6 feet distance as much as

possible. Students should use door #8 on the west to enter the high school and exit door #9 when leaving the High school while maintaining 6 ft distance. The football field will have an entrance gate and exit gate. Complete speed and strength COVID-19 guidelines for speed and strength will be available early in the week of June 8 which includes signed parental COVID-19 acknowledgment.
