Allie Sannes is a school counseling intern joining us from MSUM. She will be at Hawley Elementary through December. She will be leading groups, meeting with individual students, and teaching classroom lessons. She brings fresh ideas and great counseling skills to our school. We are very lucky to have her here!
What do Licensed School Counselors do?
School counselors are licensed by the Minnesota Board of Teaching and are required to have a master's degree in school counseling. We have specialized training to work with all students in grades K - 12 individually, in small groups, or in the classroom setting. We support students, families, and school staff so students can be successful in school. We offer support in three main areas:
Social / Emotional Concerns and Skill Development
Career and College Exploration
How do students and parents/guardians connect with the school counselor?
Students can self-refer or be referred by parents/guardians or staff members. Students can fill out a referal slip outside the school counseling office or ask their teacher for a referral. Parents/guardians can stop by, call, or email. It may be wise to call ahead to be sure the school counselor will be available.
